Principal's Update

October 4 , 2007

Fall Greetings!

This has been a fun few days as we watched the weather turn every few minutes, and always during lunch recess! But despite weather changes, parish and school have resumed their rhythm of activities, ranging from CYO to commission meetings. Mr. Allen and I met today to discuss the Christmas Program, a sure sign that time is moving along rapidly.

Here are some informational pieces to keep in mind:
  • Playmakers: I am waiting for a confirmation call from the Youth Theatre Northwest, Mercer Island, to settle on a performance date in spring. From all the research done and information shared, bringing them on board is an outstanding way to continue the drama tradition begun by Mrs. Kristy.

  • The Sacred Heart Guitar Club is alive and well, started by Mr. Schmid (7), Mr. Allen (music), Mr. Tribble (7/8), and Senor Canete. Students met earlier this week for the first time.

  • Ms. Potts and Mrs. McReynolds have continued the tradition begun last year and are hosting a Knitting Club on Wednesdays during second lunch and lunch recess. Today we shared patterns and are deciding on a project all can complete. Ideally, the project should benefit others.
School Accreditation:
  • Our accreditation chair is from Garden Grove, CA. She has been receiving chapters as we write them and has thus far been giving us the thumbs-up. Much work is yet to be completed.

  • During this week’s staff meeting we hosted teachers from Holy Family, Kirkland. They graciously brought and shared their Evidence Binders. Each staff member /volunteer committee/commission puts together an Evidence Binder. For instance, Parents’ Club Executive Board and School Commission will each present an Evidence Binder demonstrating their work toward the school’s mission during the past six years.

  • Since last spring we have posted our former and our revised Student Learning Expectations on the website. We have received some input, made some changes and are now ready to show the new Student Learning Expectations as our permanent SLEs.

  • The accreditation visit is still scheduled for January 11, 2008 (pre-visit) and for February 20 - February 22, 2008. We are aware that this visit conflicts with our traditional mid-winter break. However, please remember that we had no input on those dates. The dates are determined by the National Association of Colleges and Universities, as well as by the Western Catholic Education Association.
Finally, please remember to send your children to school with a jacket. It’s important for them to be outside during recess and we’d love to cut down on soggy sweatshirts.

We hope to see you at First Friday Mass this week, with the conversation with administration immediately following mass.

Blessings,

Carola
