Feast of All Saints

Today’s Feast Day honors all the saints of the church, those known and unknown; thus, we’re provided with the opportunity to reflect on the nature of sainthood and celebrate the faithfulness of the holy women and men of every place and time, whose lives and deeds continue to inspire us.

We began the day with a school mass focusing on the Beatitudes in Matthew’s Gospel. Tomorrow, the church commemorates All the Faithful Departed (All Souls). Throughout the month of November we remember family members, friends, and neighbors who have died. On Thursday, November 8, at 7 PM, Sacred Heart Parish celebrates a Mass of Remembrance. This is an opportunity for all to come together, not only to remember those who have died, but also to reflect on Jesus’ promise of an unending relationship with God.

The Feast Days of All Saints and All Souls signal the last month of the church year. The church year ends on November 25, with the Feast of Christ the King. And while it is understandably easy to get caught up in the pre-holiday season activities, the liturgical seasons offer enriching moments for reflection and prayer.

May we all have and take the time to reflect on God’s grace in our lives.

Opportunity for reflection:

Jesus beatitudes describe the behavior of his followers. Which beatitude is most challenging for me to practice now?
