Principal's Update
December 6 , 2007
Beloved, now is the acceptable time spoken of by the Spirit, the day of salvation, peace and reconciliation – the great season of Advent. This is the time eagerly awaited by the patriarchs and the prophets, the time that holy Simeon rejoiced to see. This is the season that the Church has always celebrated with special solemnity. We too should always observe it with faith and love, offering praise and thanksgiving to the father for the mercy and love shown us in this mystery.
St. Charles Borromeo
Today is the feast day of St. Nicholas, one of the most popular saints in both the Roman and the Orthodox Churches. Famous for his pastoral care, the many legendary stories of his charitable deeds became the basis of the figure of Santa Claus.
As part of our St. Nicholas celebration, the children in the primary wing put one shoe outside the classroom and received a holy card sharing a story about the saint. Through Peacemaker, service and outreach we strive to follow this saint’s spirit of giving.
Typical for this time of year, the month of December presents us with numerous opportunities for prayer and celebration:
- Next Tuesday, we celebrate the feast day of our Lady of Guadalupe with a prayer service, beginning at 10 AM, in the church. The prayer service is led by KA and 6B.
- Also on Tuesday, December 11, at 7 PM, Sacred Heart School presents its annual Christmas program. This year, all students, kindergarten through eighth grade, are expected to participate. We have a number of soloists, percussions, bell choir and every grade has rehearsed specific songs. Please make sure your student arrives to the designated classroom space by 6:30 PM. Students in grades K-6 report to their classrooms. 7th and 8th grade students report to their blue/green campus Ministry groups, in the main middle school building.
- On Thursday, December 13, at 11 AM, Fr. Ritter invites you to the fifth annual Shoe Liturgy (see November 15 letter for specific details). Again, please be sure to leave the shoe boxes unwrapped and do not include any edible items in the box.
Code of Conduct and update Policy & Procedure Manual:
Lastly, two weeks ago we emailed the updated Policy & Procedure Manual as well as the Code of Conduct to all families. Please have the Code of Conduct signed and returned to your youngest/only child’s teacher by December 13. In the case of 7th and 8th grade students who are the only children in the school, please have your student return the signed form to the first period teacher. As was discussed during Open House and in previous communication, the Code of Conduct is to be signed by all families; incoming families receive it with their registration packet.
Advent blessings,
Carola
