Sacred Heart School Commission
December 12 , 2007 Meeting
- Principal’s Report: Dr. Wittmann provided the Commission with an update.
- The tuition collection service, SMART Tuition, is being reviewed to determine whether it best serves SHS.
- The Accreditation document is completed. It will be bound and provided to the Accreditation Team by 12/21/07.
- The Revised Code of Conduct has been sent to all SHS families. A signed agreement to abide by this code is due from each family on 12/13/07.
- Finance: John Carrosino reported on SHS finances. The budget is within expectations thus far in the school year. The budget process for next year is underway.
- Parents’ Club: Stephanie Casey provided an update.
- Fundraising Chair Ellen Tobin set up two new events in December: one involved an evening of shopping at Packaging Specialties, the other involved shopping at Watson Kennedy and/or dining at 520 Bar & Grill. A percentage of the evenings’ sales went to SHS. It was a good community building event.
- Auction planning is underway with Chairs Scott Green and Nancy Schoeggl. Auction is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, at the Westin in Bellevue.
- Catholic Schools Week is January 28-February 1st. It will be celebrated at weekend Masses. There will be a teacher appreciation luncheon, too.
- A Skate King waiver of liability is being developed.
- Guest Speaker: Julie Metzker will speak on “Parenting Adolescents”. Her presentation will be Wednesday, January 16 at 7 pm in SH Church.
- Development: Lisa Napoli O’Toole reported on Annual Fund and Endowment.
- Additional gifts and pledges have been received by the SHS Endowment. The Endowment is now nearly $400,000.
- Endowment presentation will be made to the Carpe Diem group in February.
- Annual Fund goal for 2007-2008 is $275,000. Many pledges have been received.
- Renee Doyle will organize an Annual Fund phone-a-thon to take place during Catholic Schools Week.
- Facilities: Fr. Pat and Greg Russell updated the Commission on the work of the Master Plan Steering Committee.
- The Archbishop has given his approval for SH Parish and School to begin the fundraising portion of the Master Plan.
- The Master Plan was presented to the Archdiocesan Building Committee and the Parochial Revolving Fund in November, 2007. Both bodies were impressed with the Plan. The Archbishop has given his approval for the fundraising to begin.
- Fundraising Consultants will be hired in January. Fundraising will begin in the later-half of 2008.
- It is hoped that construction on the Master Plan Priority One may begin in the summer of 2009.
- The Priority One established by the Master Plan Steering Committee is the safety and security of all who come to the Sacred Heart campus. With that in mind, the first “priorities” are:
- To move School offices to the School entrance so each guest is greeted.
- To move two middle school classrooms out of the Parish Center and into the School. This will enable the school to conduct a security “lock down” with all students in one building.
- To replace the aging Parish Administration/Pastoral Services building with a safe, modern building that will ensure continuous operations and safety of personnel, visitors and records. This will require that the existing Administration/Pastoral Services building be torn down.
- Replacement of the aging SHS boiler will be handled as a maintenance issue and will take place over the summer of 2008.
Please direct School Commission questions to Greg Russell (Chairperson).
